Roy Plote

Hedging Strategist

Roy Plote is a hedging strategist with AgMarket.Net. He also co-operates a 6th generation family farm with his brother, Lester, at Leland, IL.  They raise corn, soybeans, wheat, hay and buy about 1000 yearling cattle to fatten for market.  Since graduating from the University of Illinois in 1990 with a BS in Farm Mgt and Agronomy, he has been managing their family operation.  In 2004, he started Perfect Choice Investments as a branch office of L&M Commodities, Inc with Wayne Nelson at a local grain elevator.

Roy enjoys helping others learn how to use futures and options for hedging their production.  As crop insurance products have evolved, he looks for opportunities to manage pricing opportunities while respecting the backstop provided by the insurance.

Janet, his wife of 29 years, is a program technician at the FSA office, and specializes in CRP.  Their oldest son, Ethan, joined the farm after graduating from U of IL in 2020 with a BS in Ag Engineering and Farm Mgt.  Son Avery is a junior at U of IL studying Ag and Computer Engineering with Agronomy focusing on software programming for ag systems.

Roy has served on the Dekalb County Farm Bureau Board for over 20 years and continues as Secretary.  He was re-elected to his third term on the DeKalb County Board, where he is Highway Chairman and member of the Planning and Zoning committee.  He is head of the Leland United Methodist Church Administrative Council and sits on the only non-cushioned bench every Sunday as the organist.
